SERVICE

This semester, I will be working with a program called Salt Lake Peer Court. Peer Court started two weeks ago and things are going great. Court cases are held every Thursdays from 6pm-8pm at the Matheson courthouse. This is my third year working with Peer Court and I strongly feel that it is a very effective program. I got the opportunity to talk with several parents this past week and all of them told me that they really appreciate this program. It has impacted their lives in a positive way and they stressed that since being involved in the program, they've seen an improvement in their child's behavior at home and also at school.

All of the cases in the courtroom I was in this past Thursday were truancy cases. There was one no show and one of the referred youths' completed his contract. It was really great seeing that referred youth graduate from Peer Court. He stated that he learned a lot from this program and he's thankful to his mentor for encouraging him and helping him throughout the whole process. His grades improved tremendously and he hasn't missed any of his classes so far this year. At Peer Court, we are always happy and proud when referred youths graduate because it shows that those youths are stepping up and working hard to be on the right path in their lives.

  1. What a great experience. What is the biggest road block to deal with when it comes to a successful outcome?
